Dave Johnsen is a touring and session bassist, that for the last 17 years has performed all over the US, Canada, the UK and Europe in jazz clubs, music halls, recording studios and festival stages. He has worked with several Frank Zappa band alumni, including Don Preston, Ike Willis and Napoleon Murphy Brock as the touring bassist for Project Object and The Grand Mothers Of Invention. He worked for the fusion repertoire group Mahavishnu Project and as part of that band’s 2007 Moogfest headlining performance, was the bass player for keyboard legend Jan Hammer. Dave has worked for Jazz keyboardist and synth guru Adam Holzman and performs with fusion guitarist Jane Getter and her band Premonition. He is the bassist for the Brooklyn-based Balkan fusion band Choban Elektrik and has worked all over NYC performing as a sideman for showcase artists, small theatre productions, clinics and recording sessions. A recent release by Phillip Glass and Xylophone People vibraphonist Sean McCaul, on the Brooklyn label Underwater Peoples featured Dave on bass. He recorded and toured extensively with the Live Nation artist and acclaimed synth rock band Glint. He has also had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such great musicians as Mike Keneally, Jon Fishman, Anton Fig, Gary Lucas and many more. Dave has been a private bass instructor for the last 10 years.
